Glossary of Terms
If you are unfamiliar with building terminology you might find it beneficial to read our Glossary of Terms as building selection will become easier to understand.
| Width or building span | The end dimension of the building whereby the ridge is visible as a centre high point. Important if you want a wide garage door for whatever reason. |
| Length | The dimension that is the side of the building – important in relating it to the length of your car or truck. |
| Eaves height | The height of the side walls or where the gutter might be fixed. If you have a high vehicle then call us on 0870 850 2035 or visit our www.3CB.co.uk website where we offer a customised solution to meet your precise need. |
| Ridge | The very top of the building roof than runs along its length. |
| Gable end | This is the view of the building where the width is visible and the ridge is seen as the high point in the centre. The garage designs shown here have the roller door or roller doors located in the gable end wall. If you want side entry doors then please call us on 0870 850 2035 or visit www.3CB.co.uk where we offer a more bespoke solution. |
| Skylights | These are translucent panels that run continuously from the eaves to the gutter to allow daylight into the buildings. Look out for inferior products that have overlaps part way down the roof, as these are susceptible to leaks and build up of unsightly algae and moss. Our system offers a one piece uninterrupted sheet that makes the inside of your building bright whilst also minimising the chances leaks. |
| PA Door | Personal Access Door |
| Anti-condensation barrier | A thin (approx. 2mm), fibrous, durable, man made, matting like material bonded to the underside of the roof to prevent condensation trickling to one point and dripping down. A wise addition should you have perishable goods stored or if you don’t want your clean car soiled! |
| Fillers (Base, Eaves and Ridge) | Neoprene fillers to block the gaps in the profiles of the sheeting. At ground/base level these are important to prevent vermin entering should you be storing anything edible. At eaves and ridge level the option is to seal the building or allow air circulation which is very much an individual choice depending upon use. Our Sales staff will be happy to advise on this issue. |
| Roller door | A sectional door which, upon opening, rolls up above the aperture. Generally a neater and better quality solution than ‘up and over’ doors. Power operators can be added to automate the opening which can be by fixed push button control box or remote handset. |
